WEB HOSTINGChoosing us to create your Web site doesn't mean that you will be expected to host
(store) your pages on any particular server. If you have your own space for Web pages
available you can use that, we can provide small sites with page space, or we can help you
to choose a suitable hosting service. OKAY SO YOU WANT A WEB SITE...Telephone 09-8131345 jot down that number. We talk. You can get cost estimates over the
phone. Then you meet with us to discuss the details (over a coffee). You will be on the
Net before you know it. Busy schedule? Let's do bussiness by e-mail... WHAT ABOUT WHEN IT IS FINISHED?Small changes to your site can be faxed through to us. Or fill out the change page. It couldn't be easier. We offer an
innovative Web site promotional service. Ask about it. If you would like to take control
of your site once we have built it for you that is fine too. We can organize storage of
your pages on a server running the FrontPage extensions or teach you how to update your
site using Microsoft FrontPage. OTHER SERVICESW.D. Web Design Productions provides a range of other information services beyond
Web building, including a free e-mail newsletter, shopping links, computer training, and
technical writing. W.D. WEB DESIGN PRODUCTIONS W E B T I P SBuilding a successful and functional Web site requires more than simply creating linked
pages... CAN PEOPLE READ IT?Text, graphics and backgrounds should work together so that the text is easily read.
'Nuf said. DOES IT HOLD INTEREST?Nobody likes to be bored. NOW WHAT?If you want people to write down your phone number, click on the moving eyeballs,
bookmark a particular page, or mail their order to you on the back of a $100 note - your
page should tell them. Try to have phone numbers, order forms, e-mail links and such,
either always visible or accessible in a minimum number of clicks. Links like
"next" and "home" may be boring, but they are functional. SPELLINGI used to be a school teacher. That's probably why my spelling and grammar are so bad!
It's sort of embarrassing when the first six e-mails you get from your new site point out
the spelling mistake on your splash page. Ouch. WAIT! IT'S COOL...REALLY...JUST HANG ON...Is your site constipated? By the time the Java, the sounds, the tiled background the
CGI, and the animated GIF's have finished loading, impatient types are likely to have
clicked the back button and gone elsewhere. Leading edge can work on an Intranet where you
have some idea of the browser, plug-ins and bandwidth that your user community will have,
or when your core business is based around selling Web bells and whistles ...other than
that? BEEN THERE DONE THATPeople are only going to come back to your site if you give them a reason to return.
Who do you revisit the most often? Answer: Sites with products, services or content that
you want, or that change every so often. OPTIMIZE FOR...EVERYTHING?Lots of people use Netscape - but which version? Others are using Internet Explorer.
Many will visit with a screen resolution of 640X480 in 16 colors (shudder). If your site
is best viewed at 1024 X 768 in 24-bit TrueColour with ACME Corp's browser using the
latest beta of the MegaBang JavaWeapon ActiveZ plug-in, then you have my condolences. At
least test your site with a few different browsers and display settings and hopefully
you'll catch the really big gaffes. LOST IN CYBERSPACESome sites have no contact details, weak branding, or a phone number that appears once
only on a "hard to get to" page. By the time you've finished exploring and
decided to drop in or phone you have to "back" your way through half a dozen or
more pages just to get a name, address or phone number. Shabby. COME OUT OF THE CLOSET - BE SUBMISSIVE!No you don't need AdultCheck verification to do this! Just make sure you submit your URL to the search engines and directories that you want to appear in. Is your site's URL on your business card, stationery, print advertisements, tee-shirt, letterbox, and Christmas cards? If not why not? Hope that your e-mail signature now includes your URL, as well as that tired old tag-line. Call 09-8131345, or send e-mail for a no-obligation discussion of your Web needs. |
